Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions
Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).
What do you define as roleplaying?
-The act of pretending to be a person or entity (or object, I suppose) that the person roleplaying is not in their normal life. This is usually done along with other people, often in an attempt to create a simulated environment.
Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:
-Powergaming is when a person makes their character in a game to be purely efficient or reach a goal in a game, to the complete exclusion of everything else, such as realism, fun, or other players' experiences. In a form of game such as Minecraft, however, where stats are not something that can be actively upgraded, powergaming often refers to how a player, during an interaction such as a fight, will word their emotes in such a way so as to completely and unfairly overpower an opponent. An example of this would be one player stating, "I chopped your head off with my longsword, and you died," instead of stating that they attempt to chop someone's head off, leaving room for the other player to dodge or parry the attack.
Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:
-When a person uses knowledge in a game that their character in-game would not know, often to affect their chances at being successful or winning at the game.
What is a "Mary-Sue" character?
-A Mary-Sue character is a character in a story who can often do in minutes what it would take others years to do, or often instantly knows how to do something that has taken another character years to learn. They often seem to warp the rules of the story around them, not having to follow them and being able to do whatever they want within the story. In stories, they usually learn as the plot demands, so that in a show, one episode neither they, nor the audience knows or is given a clue that they have immense power, and suddenly in the next episode they can nuke the planet with a snap of their fingers. They can be male or female, despite the name.
What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?
-OOC means "out of character" and is used, in role-playing games, to signify when there are events occurring that the in-game character is not aware of, but the person playing the game is. An example would be "out of character" chat, which would be where players can speak directly to each other, instead of through the character they are playing as.

- Born in the North of the Oserian Plains, William was born to a caring, if strict father, and a hardworking, loving mother. He was the 8th of 12 children, of which he had seven brothers and 4 sisters, only 10 of which survived to adulthood. Taught to be a follower of The Path of the One, he had his Beginning Ceremony just weeks after he was born. Though his father had been born a peasant, and knew little of reading or writing, his mother was a commoner, who had been born and raised in Dunsgate, and was proficient in basic mathematics and literature. When his mother was not making him read and write, he and his siblings were being taught the value of hard work by his father, a woodcutter and wheat farmer. Indeed, thanks to his father, William himself became a woodcutter, and learned how to distill alcoholic drinks from the wheat they grew. William lived a stupidly uneventful life on his farm until the age of 20, before he happily set out to make his way in the world. Though he still keeps in touch with his family through written letters, he hasn't seen them in many a day, especially after his mother died of of sickness.
His mother's teachings left a love of books in William, and for five years, he walked Oserian Plains, doing odd jobs in towns and farms that he passed by, buying the books he could, and finally, at the age of 26, he decided to find a town to settle down, build a house, and start working as a woodcutter and wheat farmer, just like his father.
Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.
Question 1
You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...
-Too drunk to do much except gawk at the thief, I run back in and tell the barkeeper about what I just saw, and try to help him bring in the woman. After helping the barkeeper tend to the woman, I alert the nearby guardsmen of what I just saw, and head home.
Question 2
You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?
-I attempt to sell my wares to the refugees, though at a reduced price. After selling some of my wares, I go and peruse the nearby shopping stalls for objects of interest. In particular, a bookseller's stall catches my eye, and I spend some of my remaining coins purchasing a book to read. After that, I go see the food stalls, before sitting down on the ground, next to my wares that I am going to sell inside the city, and read for the rest of the time I have to wait.
Question 4
In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…
-Spare him. The soldier has clearly suffered more than anyone should in their entire life, and the sight of a dead man makes my stomach churn. I am reminded of the brothers I lost, the two that didn't make it to even 18. At least those deaths were caused by nature. To think that this man lost a dear friend to a man who he didn't even know- I find it hard to imagine what that would be like. Looking up at the advancing enemy forces, I turn heel and run back to the safety of my own unit.
