Section 1/4 - Out of Character Information

Minecraft Username(s):

Full UUID for your MineCraft account(s) (Found here):

What is your age?
(We need to know this as our server has an age restriction)

Have you read the server rules? (Found here)

-Yes I have

Do you agree with the server rules?

-Yes, I do

How did you hear about Tale of Banners?

-I was searching for a good medieval roleplay for a few months now. I tried to download mods to get the feel for it, but it never really stuck. Other servers couldn't really cut it because they were either abandoned or too big for my tastes.

Do you have any previous roleplay experience?
(Please give examples, no experience is acceptable)

- I have started roleplaying on the server Lichcraft at around 2013. The server sadly died off, and then I switched over to the server of CreativeFun, however their rules are dated, and their staff are corrupt. To put it into perspective, roleplaying as Darth Vader and force choking someone was against their rules. I have also been accepted into the LOTC server for roleplaying.

Additional Information: (If any)

Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions

Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).

What do you define as roleplaying?

-Roleplaying in my view is creating a character separate from yourself in everyday life. Creating this barrier between the roleplaying you and the real life you is important so that you can take a step back and realize that its all just plain fun at the end of the day. This is to prevent any in real life disputes over some pixels in a game.

Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:

-Powergaming in my own words is roleplaying with absolutes(and only a sith deals in absolutes), and not caring for what the other person has to say about an action. No matter how skilled or powerful you are, you must at least give the other side time to react to an action. In my years of roleplaying I have seen this powergaming, and found it disgusting. Children have used powergaming in order to speed up the process of the fight because of their impatient minds. Sentences like; "I stab you in the heart and you can't dodge" were some things that I have seen.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:

-Metagaming in my own words is someone giving themselves the power of being an omniscent "God". They can somehow get information that a player has said from across the map, and act in spite of their action. I have taken precautions against this type of roleplaying by doing /whisper or /msg to someone nearby so that someone doesn't read in to my plans.

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

-Mary-Sue characters are character who have no flaws in their personality or appearance, and are perfect at everything they do no matter how much training they do or do not have.

What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?

-OOC means Out Of Character, and this should only be used when someone is talking out of character to someone else.
Section 3/4 - Character Creation

Provide us with an in-game screenshot of your character’s skin.

- Aizen Rais

- 20

Can your character read and write?:

-Yes he can read and write.

Story & Biography (please go into detail, we recommend two paragraphs but expect at least one. Please outline character history, personality traits and the things that make your character unique. Have fun with this section!)

Aizen was firmly pushed under the bed with his older brother and sister by his mother.

"Stay down and don't come out no matter what." Mary Rais, his mother said to him firmly, but with tears in her eyes

Although her voice was somewhat drowned out by the fighting outside of their small bedroom, he couldn't go out even if he wanted to due to his older brother, Cory Rais, and his sister Skyler Rais holding him down so that he doesn't think about running after her. With their teeth grinding, fists clenching, eyes watering, and brows furrowing; they knew what had to be done. As their mother steps away, they all see their father fighting off several of the marauders, and a feeling of hope flickers in their eyes, before they see his skull get cleaved almost into two pieces by an axe from behind. Mary, fueled by nothing but adrenaline, picks up a dull kitchen knife from the cutting board, and runs the blade into one of the Marauders' hands. She almost immediately gets cut down, and falling over her dead husband. Her death is only followed by some curses towards her feeble attempts at survival.

"You idiot! Do you know how much we could've sold that broad for?! One of the marauders says as he pushes the other out the door that was barely holding up on its hinges.

The Rais children who's ages were 10, 15, and 16; laid their parents to rest after a few weeks after working up the courage. Cory and Skyler did all the heavy lifting while Aizen, just cried. He cried for hours whenever he got the faint reminder of their parents. When the children decided to leave Oseria, they caught up with some soldiers making their patrols along the border of the Emirate of Milah, and were escorted towards the closest Orphanage; Aizen would cry every time they passed by bodies floating along the swamp's waters. The bodies' were stripped of their clothes, and you could always find a broken cart nearby; which signaled that they were most likely killed by pirates and bandits . Cory and Skyler quickly decided to blindfold him and lead him the rest of the way. The children arrived at the orphanage the following day, starving, cold, and dirty. When they were led inside they were all given looks that you would expect from kids with some anger issues. Well, they were more so staring Aizen down since he looked the weakest of the three.

During "field time" Cory and Skyler talked often to each other while Aizen wandered off to make a friend of his own. He eventually ran into a girl sitting by herself writing into a diary under a tree who he later called, "Light". Light and Aizen would often overhear some background snickering and pointing, but Aizen ignored them all as he began to like Light more and more. After many more of these meetings under that tree she finally takes his hand in her own and says these two words that will change his life;

"Follow me" Light says as she leads him to a secluded spot on the playground away from the caretakers' eyes.

"L-light, I've been wanting to tell you something for a long time" Aizen says while fiddling with his hands in the dark corner of the grassy field which wreaked so much of "Dry Smoke" that it triggered a gag reflex in Aizen's throat.

"Oh Aizen, I've been wanting to tell you something too" She says with a cute smile that he has become so familiar with now.

"I love y-" Aizen's voice is cut off by another boy's voice.

"You what?" Nullen, the biggest kid in their age group says as his group of cronies start laughing.

Aizen is caught up in a jumble of words, looking towards Light for support, but sees her wrapping her arms around Nullen's arm with tears in her eyes.

"H-he said he was going to eat me! I knew there was something wrong with that red-eyed freak!" She screams up towards Nullen, putting emphasis on the word "freak" as she looks back to Aizen.

Nullen's eyes and face contort in a disgusted manner as he extends his hand out towards one of his followers without breaking eye contact with Aizen, and a pointed branch gets planted into his palm.

"You should really be thanking me" Nullen says as he grasps the branch with two hands.

"T-thanking you for what?" Aizen replies as he backs up until his back hits the wall of the school.

"This" Nullen says before taking a large step forward, and slashing the branch downwards across Aizen's eye.

The blood curdling scream that follows rings out through the entire playground as Aizen lifts his hand up towards his face, and upon taking it off reveals that his entire hand was dripping from the blood on his face. The caretakers along with Cory and Skyler push their way past the crowd that gathered towards the screaming, but Nullen was nowhere to be found.

Aizen wakes up in the Clergy Room (where the Holy Men would use prayers, herbs, and rituals to heal the wounded) in the orphanage with bandages covering his face. He turns his head to see Skyler asleep by his bedside as Cory is reading in a chair across the room.

"Glad to see you're awake, seems like you screamed until you were unconscious" Cory says as he flips to another page in his book.

"What happened..." Aizen says as he feels his face, and catching the lining of bandages across his face.

"It doesn't matter what happened, what matters now is; what are you going to do about it"

"I...I don't know, even if I did; there's nothing I can do" Aizen says hopelessly as he lets his head hang down.

"I know, and this is the moment your sister and I have been waiting for, to train you how we get by in this life. I will train you to rally your own little group of followers around you with speech craft, and your sister will teach you how to be nimble and silent to the point where you can blend into the darkness."

Over the few years the siblings trained Aizen; the sister taught him things that you would find basic, but it still would take time to do like working on keeping a silent breath without holding it, staying light footed, maintaining patience with a target, and when to take advantage of crowded places. Cory on the other hand taught him to get over the common fear of public speaking by making him write speeches down, remembering them, and reciting them without a paper to read off of. He also taught him how having a wide variety of tones when speaking can have a strong impact on a person's mind. Having different voices for different characters when telling a story could provide the comedic effect for an audience of listeners. The rule in the orphanage is that when you turn eighteen, you are given some money, food, clothing, and sent out on your way to become an independent person of society. Skyler was the first to go, and given a ceremony and speech for those to remember her by. She didn't say much, but she did leave Aizen her mask that she kept with her that trained her endurance by limiting the amount of oxygen intake to accustom him to oxygen low environments. The most Aizen heard her say when he would mess up during training, and he messed up a lot, so he definitely got her talking more than he would have liked.

During Cory's last year he finished off his training with Aizen, who was now fifteen years old. Aizen was taught about keeping up representation, and boasted about how the clothing that he makes is some of the best, so the training virtually came to a halt besides some surprise speeches that Cory threw at him, but most of his time was spent tailoring Aizen's clothing to something that would match his appearance. Cory finally finished the jacket and pants; which matched the mask given to him by Skyler almost perfectly. As Cory walked out the Orphanage's gates he leaned towards Aizen, whispering in his ear;

"Finish what others have started." And with that, he walks down the same road Skyler walked down a year ago.

Aizen spent two years pondering that statement while he trained himself on his own, stealing food from storage, finally gaining some good reputation, not caring if it was good reputation with bad people; he just wanted some people to hang around. When finally it hit him as he was standing in the mirror one day, glaring at his now one gray eye that he got from the trauma seven years ago.....Nullen. Aizen will finish what others started using what he sought to learn to become stronger, to become useful. To stand up out of the bed that he cowered in so many years ago. Aizen walked out of the gates that day with everything his siblings gave him, his clothes, his mask, and his way of life. as he walked with Light one last time; he wore a wide grin under his mask, because she was being escorted out in chains by the local militia while being tried for having a knife hidden away in her trunk with a diary that wrote out her hatred for Nullen in clear words. The art of forgery was something he learned from Cory's teachings, and time spent with Light and writing with her in her diary.

"Now it's time to start something of my own...." Aizen thinks as he walks with his black hair and raven feathered jacket fluttering wildly with the wind, walking on the path different from his other siblings.

Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.

Question 1

You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

- I rush over to the woman, and by scooping her up into my arms. I carry her into the tavern where I know the most people will be, and ask for help. Alcohol is known for treating wounds, and I have faith that the local guards will catch a shady man who's running around with a knife and stolen jewelry. Jewelry can be replaced, but a life cannot.

Question 2

You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?

- I spend my time in camp by loaning blankets and clothing to the refugees. I must care for these citizens if the city will not. Having my company be well-known for taking care of its people is not only beneficial to my company, but is just the right thing to do.

Question 3

You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...

- I inquire about the food that makes it so "unpleasant" to outsiders. If I were to blindly accept it I could get sickly and throw up, which would be contradictory to me finding food, but if I were to decline it; I could never have a chance for food in at least a few miles. It's better to get the most information I can before acting on something.

Question 4

In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

- I sheathe my weapon, knowing when a soldier is beaten, and extend my hand out to him. It is best to gain all the allies you can, even if some are enemies. Aizen lives by three words that determine his every fight and battle with others "Convert or Die". Simply meaning that one has a chance to join in arms, or die in the arms of his brethren.

Question 5

You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

I would be as polite and as cool-headed as possible in this situation towards the Northerners. If I am talked down to or pushed around, I will turn the other cheek as becoming violent or loud would most likely get me kicked out of the village. Beating a man who refuses to fight is dishonorable, Northerner or not, we are all human. If they do not accept me then, then I will resort to other means in surviving as a last resort.

You’re almost there! Your application is pending.

There are only a few things to change for a final decision.

Make the following edits to your application:

1. Your skin is unrealistic. All skins on the server must maintain a standard of realism and must me appropriate for the medieval theme.

2. Your biography reads as though it is written about events taking place in modern times. It also involves red-eyed people, and in Esna, red eyes only happen with Albinoism. In addition modern concepts of schoolyards are present. You also have no server lore in the bio. I would recommend reading through the server lore and including some of it inside the biography.

It is clear to me you do have a good understanding of the roleplay given your definitions and the overall good answers to the questions.

Once that is done, make a comment affirming you have made these changes and your application will be reviewed again as soon as possible.

Good luck!

I have adjusted the school yards so that it more reflects those of medieval times, got rid of the red eyed concept in the biography, and I have added server lore by including the locations of some of the places in the server. My skin won't load for me to see, but others can see it.

What did I forget to change in the biography? I got rid of the red-eyes, and made it more clear that I'm just talking about a grass field as a playground, and for the schooling there was no indication of any modern references being made, but if you caught something that I didn't I would be happy to fix it for you right away.
