Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions
Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).
What do you define as roleplaying?
- Roleplaying to me is stepping out of your own shoes and taking on the persona of a character either of your own creation or a pre existing one and acting through scenarios usually given by a DM or someone similar.
Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:
- Powergaming is forcing an action onto another player/npc/environment without giving a chance for the DM/Player to respond fairly. IE 'Tom cuts Rodger's head off.' Where an appropriate action may be something along the lines of "Tom attempts to slice through Rodger's armor."
Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:
- Metagaming is using out of game/irl information in game through your character.
What is a "Mary-Sue" character?
- A Mary-Sue character is one that has no flaws and has no room for development. Essentially perfect.
What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?
- OOC means 'out of chat' or 'out of character' in my experience. This is to be used when speaking in terms of information outside of the game IE through discord.
Section 3/4 - Character Creation
Here you will create an example character that could exist in the server’s history and lore.
Provide us with an in-game screenshot of your character’s skin.
-
Name:
- Yatur
Age:
- 24
Culture:
- Drahl Grulk
Can your character read and write?:
- No
Story & Biography (please go into detail, we recommend two paragraphs but expect at least one. Please outline character history, personality traits and the things that make your character unique. Have fun with this section!)
- Yatur an unlikely child, born to the warm and humid Crookmire Swamp. The massive Grulk are usually born to the harsh winters of the North, but Yatur is a unique case. His father was exiled from his tribe, and eventually found his way to the Crookmire Swamp working as a mercenary. Eventually, he found a lover and Yatur was born. Yatur took after his father in looks and learned to speak Tehn and broken Norvian from his mother. Yatur stands at a tall 7'2", smaller than the average Grulk but still massive when compared to common Esnian form. Growing up, he did not learn the teachings of Tsarra from his mother or father, so he does not take to any specific religion. He learned of the way of combat in his late teens and enlisted to defend the small village in which his family lived from would be invaders or pirates. This was his way of contributing to the village and gave him a way to earn his keep.
Soon, his father grew ill. Yatur and his mother did their best to keep him comfortable in his passing moments, though little could be done when the harsh fever took his body. His father explained his homeland to Yatur, how his tribe exiled him and how his pride was lost. Upon his father's passing, Yatur sought to restore his father's honor, beginning to travel to the north to find exposure and a new path. Yatur wishes to find his own way, and he is hoping to find it in the north.
Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.
Question 1
You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewelry on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...
- ...chase the thief down. The woman's wellbeing is of no concern to you, but a fight and the opportunity to make some shiny profit seems good to you. It's been some time since you've felt the rush of battle, the droning city life was starting to weigh on you anyway. It must have been a couple minutes, sprinting down the allyways. He is fast, but your strides are longer and you are gaining. Eventually, the cutpurse makes a mistake and you corner him. Your intimidating size usually meant that your enemies surrender, though he was not a coward. He brandished his knife toward you, though you are learned in the ways of combat. You deflect his first strike meant to be a surprise. He is quick, but you were just a tad quicker. A quick and heavy smack with your club sends him to the ground. You collect the jewelry and whatever else the thief had on him, then be on your way.
Question 4
In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…
- ...shake your head as you approach swiftly and execute the man swiftly. There is no room for the weak on the battlefield and you have no time to waste. The enemy is approaches and you do not wish to have another enemy to fight later. Afterward you run back toward your battalion to regroup and join in the final push against the enemy. It was a rough back and fourth, but you as well as the mercenaries that were hired pulled your weight and the battle was won.
Question 5
You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?
- You've dealt with worse. You know the men of the north to be unforgiving and untrustworthy. You would rather starve in the cold than accept the help of a stranger in this Northern village. Your body isn't as accustomed to the cold as some of your kin, but you will just have to deal with it. You keep wandering until you find any sort of shelter, an extra tall hill, a rock, a tree, anything. You curl into your leathers as you shiver, taking out your dry tinder bundle and strike sparks into it from your flint. Once.. twice.. Did your bundle get wet? A third time, finally. Fire. You will survive.
