Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions
Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).

What do you define as roleplaying?

  • Pretending to be a character in different forms of storytelling. Such as fantasy, realism, horror, and so forth. Made for a fun and safe way to pretend to be a villain, or key character in your own story.

Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:

  • If someone would moderate someone else's behaviors to fit your own belief. Such as, “I attack you with my sword and it hits you NO MATTER WHAT”. This is unfair to the player it is being used to because they have no way to describe or have fun with their character if the other player is manipulating their moves.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:

  • Using your own knowledge to determine what a character would do. If the roleplayer outside of a roleplay tells the other player about their character's backstory it doesn’t mean that your character knows about it. This is unfair for a character to know

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

  • An overpowered character that has no flaws or imperfections. Usually has extra magic or a powerful strength that can be extremely unfair when playing against.

What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?

  • OOC or Out Of Character. Means to be out of character. This should be used when trying to discuss any normal conversations with someone instead of roleplaying.
Section 3/4 - Character Creation
Here you will create an example character that could exist in the server’s history and lore.

Provide us with an in-game screenshot of your character’s skin.

Name:

  • Lecien Odon

Age:

  • 19

Culture:

  • Northern Summit

Can your character read and write?:

  • They can read and write, they read an infinite amount of poetry and nonfiction. They don’t write as much but they know how to put their signature down and write a letter if needed.

Story & Biography (please go into detail, we recommend two paragraphs but expect at least one. Please outline character history, personality traits and the things that make your character unique. Have fun with this section!)

(Please note although the character you apply with can commit illegal or immoral acts you cannot do these things on the server without an Intrigue application. This can be applied for once you are whitelisted.) Found here:

https://taleofbanners.com/forum/forums/intrigue-application.119/ (Intrigue Application)

(You are also able to apply with a noble but keep in mind you cannot play a noble character on the server unless you join an accepted noble house or apply for one.) Found here:

https://taleofbanners.com/forum/forums/noble-houses.142/ (Noble Houses)
  • Although Lecien was born female, they do not mind what they are called. They had a strong connection to their family of four brothers and both parents, growing up in a larger settlement in the North. Lecien idolized those of higher status than them, loving the aspect of being able to have luxurious clothes and being able to read so often without care. This led to them looking down on lower-class folk, even though they themself were lower to mid-class.
  • Lecien and their family were all very close. With similar variants of greenish-blue eyes and dark brown hair, it was clear Lecien and their siblings were family. As their father was a hunter and their mother stayed at home, they learned many skills. This includes the basic hunting and survival techniques of the cold North from their father and basic reading skills from their mother. After learning to read, Lecien spent as much time as they could finding books and papers, mainly focusing on poems.
  • Lecien is undeniably smart, being able to pick up on dialects of other cultures, but even though their strongest point is their intelligence Lecien can still hold their own when their moral compass is challenged. Lecien was taught from a young age how to handle their alcohol because of their father’s need for more, and Lecien was able to develop a strong tolerance even at such a young age. Lecien’s strong moral compass was for justice, they believed that any wrongdoing should be punished. Although because of their biased ways, sometimes their moral compass is very prejudiced.
  • Currently, Lecien is very young, at the age of 19 they have decided they have picked up enough skills and headed out from their home with the thirst for knowledge. After “fleeing the nest” they found themself looking for help to further their journey.

Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.

Question 1

You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

  • She turned towards the cowering woman, seeing her bleeding furiously. Her face shriveled up in disgust, but she jogged towards the hooded man before realizing her strength was far worse than normal. She stepped back walking back to the bloody woman in the ally. She quickly yelled in the streets for backup. Waiting for someone else to help her heal back up. She held her dagger coming off a little threatening. But she regained some composure and walked out of the town.

Question 2

You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?

  • She sat on the floor and rested herself before walking around to stare around the shops. She looked for weaponry and armor at low prices. Walking around she spotted normal common shops located around the stalls. She bought nothing but was intrigued by the vast amount of weaponry.

Question 3

You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...

  • She gives the lady a look up and down before laughing at her under her breath. She stared at the fishy meal angrily and groggily paying for the cheap looking food. She would eat it, getting sick from the smell and taste. But find herself not hungry the day after.

Question 4

In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and start calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

  • Walk up to the both of them, getting ready to attack. She thought of a fast death. To spare him from the dread of mourning a loved friend or more. She quickly grabbed her sword and cut through his body. Leaving him to die quickly.

Question 5

You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

  • She would stay alarmed, holding her dagger at all times making sure to watch her every move. She reminded herself she’s part of another northern village before striding into the village. She kept her head down and stayed friendly. Leaving practically immediately. She made sure no one followed her and kept strong minded throughout the village.

You’re almost there! Your application is pending.

There are only a few things to change for a final decision.

Make the following edits to your application:

1. Your metagaming definition is fine, but the second half of your statement includes a character that is a metagame concept. The purpose of knowing the definition is to avoid metagaming. A self insert character defeats that purpose. This is to ensure the character and player are separated in the game when it comes to objective rulings from the staff.

2. Your character background makes no use of server lore, and your culture has an incorrect name. This is only a minor issue, as nearly all of your background is fine as is. Take a look at the lore here for information. https://taleofbanners.com/forum/categories/official-canon-lore.158/ (Official Canon Lore)

3. Your answers to the questions come off a little powergamey. For instance, you are drunk in your fight against the thief, you might not have such an easy time against him. These are used to gauge your response in a multiplayer scenario, so react as if you were within one, trying to achieve things.

All in all, this application isn't bad at all. Once that is done, make a comment affirming you have made these changes and your application will be reviewed again as soon as possible.

Good luck!
