Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions
Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).

What do you define as roleplaying?

The act of embodying a character different to your real self, acting as they would in any given circumstance, through their actions, speech, etc.

Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:

An unfair way of maximizing your character's potential without in game justification in order to achieve your goals. This may include speaking over or for other player characters (declaring that your attack against them was successful), or min-maxing.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:

Using OOC information to influence RP actions, e.g. discussing terms of an alliance in an OOC discord rather than through an RP meeting, or using knowledge that you may know, but your character does not in order to benefit you.

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

A "perfect" character, who is good at anything without ever having the need to practise, learn or develop their skills. They may have established themselves in backstory without roleplaying interactions with people - it may be stated that their character is the greatest swordsman who lived, or that they are the most popular person in the city, without ever having roleplayed with a single person. During a roleplay they may err into powergaming by claiming perfection in a skill.

What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?

It stands for Out of Character, and is to be used when not roleplaying.

Section 3/4 - Character Creation
Here you will create an example character that could exist in the server’s history and lore.

Story & Biography (please go into detail, we recommend two paragraphs but expect at least one. Please outline character history, personality traits and the things that make your character unique. Have fun with this section!)
B
Born to parents Mary and Charles de Rutzen, Amicia de Rutzen's early years were of no extraordinary note. Raised in a small town, and daughter to a tanner, Amicia was oft expected to wed no one of renown, or perhaps continue in her father's shoes in craftwork. Yet young Amicia dreamed neither of leather nor veils, but of high courts and nobles, gowns of iridescent fabrics, crystalline glasses clinking. But for the time being these things lay far beyond her grasp despite the tales woven by troubadours and singers alike.
For the time being her life was unmistakably bound by the fortune (or lack thereof) of her birth. By many standards her luck was extraordinary however. Both parents displayed love and affection, as much as any child was wont to have, and whilst lavishness evaded her, starvation was mostly kept at bay, though pangs of hunger were not uncommon during the harsher winters, or in the wake of a poor harvest. Pestilence raised its head once, a pox struck at age five, leaving her bedbound for near on a season, yet her recovery was swift and little was thought on it in the years following. The labour around the household was split between each occupant fairly, with the family rotating on some chores, whilst others remained as standard. Charles, as the primary breadwinner would spend much of his time tanning, the daylight hours spent working with leather, whilst Mary tended to the housebound orders, as one might expect commoners to do.
Her early education was sparse but sufficient for her lifestyle, learning the very basics of literacy and numeracy, but very little beyond a rudimentary understanding - being from a family of crafters, such talents were unnecessary to her progress in the eyes of her parents. Instead, she learnt what she needed to in order to aid her family. Too young to work at the tannery, as a child Amicia would aid her mother in general daily chores about the house in between enjoying the leisure's of youth with her companions in the village. A popular child, Amicia surrounded herself with friends from across the town, and many an afternoon would be spent wiling away the hours playing any number of games. From a young age, she was said to have created lavish stories which enchanted those around her, as she mimicked the troubadours that would pass through the town.
Her teens years passed her by as her interest in the literary world began to grow. Her abilities of comprehension exceeded those of most of her peers, and many a time she would be caught hiding from chores with a book in hand. She read all she could, from religious texts on the Path of the One, to the histories of Oseria, revelling in tales of Grand King Ardyn and the Night of the Crimson Moon. By the age of eighteen, her parents, and some of her family friends had raised a fund, enough to send her to Dunsgate, to pursue and education. In a nation devastated by pestillence, its peoples decimated, Amicia found herself determined to forge from the ashes a future for he collective peoples. This is where she finds herself now, in pursuit of not just education - but of power, wealth, and glory.

Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.
Question 1

You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

Eye the woman for a moment, ensuring that there is no ploy involved, that there is no-one waiting to gut me before I go to help. On establishing the genuineness of the woman, I rush to her, placing pressure on the wound, remembering the book I once read on common ailments, whilst comforting her. I let out a cry for help, both out of a genuine desire to aid her, and to make it known that I was not complicit in the assailment.

Question 2

You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?

A quick survey of the camp and those in it would be first on the list. Establish whether or not my goods would fetch a higher price here may be beneficial as well, depending on what they were and what was needed - bandages and bread may be more valuable here than jewels and trinkets. Finally, when the wait kicks in, a good book somewhere secluded would be just the thing.

Question 3

You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...

Query her directly on what she means. I have little time for those who speak in riddles, and whilst I can put up with an upset stomach in place of starvation, I'd rather not wake up tied to a slab and held to ransom.

Question 4

In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

Leave him be. He will either succumb to his wounds or remain psychologically traumatized by this experience, either way, he will be of no threat to me. And on the off chance he should make it through, perhaps he will remember the woman who paid him the kindness of ignoring him.

Question 5

You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

Whilst I am amazed that I've gotten myself into such a situation, I am no stranger to hostile situations. Hailing the head of the village and declaring diplomatic immunity, I may at least ward off any outright hostility. Asking for a bed until the storm clears would also be wise, and why not attempt some friend making in the process? You never know when they'll come in useful...

You’re almost there! Your application is pending.

There are only a few things to change for a final decision.

Make the following edits to your application:

1. Your mary-sue definition is a doesn't touch on how a mary sue interacts with the people around them. Please expand on it in this way.

2. Your biography fails to mention server specific lore. Please check out our lore pages here https://taleofbanners.com/forum/categories/official-canon-lore.158/ (Official Canon Lore) for more information and inspiration. I would personally recommend reading over the plague lore and some of the Oserian lore.

Once that is done, make a comment affirming you have made these changes and your application will be reviewed again as soon as possible.

Good luck!
