Terms & definitions
Answer these definitions using your own words. The definitions can be looked up if necessary, however copy-pasting is not allowed.
What do you define as roleplaying?

Answer - taking the place of a created/selected character; immersing oneself into the time, place, and setting of where that character is. This involves everything from speech to the behavior of a character which is generally different from that of the player's.

Describe the term ‘powergaming’

Answer - Forcing an action upon another player, and force succeeding/failing an action(s) overall. With other players, powergaming may be something as simple as emoting a successful attack without giving the other player(s) a chance to react.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’

Answer - Using Out of Character (OoC) knowledge In-Character (IC).

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

Answer - The player's representation of the "perfect" character. Think Super Man; he's OP. This character has little to no weaknesses, stemming from the player's perfectly ideal character. Having interacted with a few during my experience, I can say that they are relatively dull characters that lack much definition.

Here you will create a character to use on our server.
Provide us with an ingame screenshot of your character’s skin.

Answer - Arlen Kharadeen

Answer - 30

Answer - Korsian

Story & Biography:

Answer - Former cockle peddler, Arlen Kharadeen took to the seas when his nephew sought after his death. Lies and slander all lead to this Korsian's tale of struggles in these strange lands. Arlen grew up as the son of Faiz Kharadeen, a rogueish Krosian who took up arms with a band of holy Oserian warriors. This led him to considerable wealth to which he and his Oserian wife, Arabella. Together they would have four children total with Arlen being the firstborn.

Arlen had a profitable upbringing with his father's diplomatic skills. Fighting also became an integral part of his life as most of his time was spent with other Oserian warriors. Throughout his teens, Arlen had become more acquainted with combat, but he discovered that he found diplomacy to be his bread and butter. He'd often conduct bartering operations with merchant guilds, villages, and even some barbarian groups. This was all in the past now.

Why he has fled from home is a long and tedious tale but in summary Arlen and his youngest brother had been on the search for their sister who took off in a fit of young teen angst. It was presumed that a third brother knew where she went to as they were closer so Arlen and his brother Alai took to torturing their brother for information. With the aid of dawned masks and a dimly lit wine cellar, the two brothers' identity had not been revealed. At least they had thought...

Now on the run from a family who dared accuse Faiz's firstborn child of a horrendous crime, Arlen took to selling oysters, clams, and cockles.

Part 4 of 4
Open-ended questions
At least three must be answered. Delete the spares(if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each of the answered questions.

Question 1
You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewelry on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

Answer: The Korsian's eyes lock just briefly with the injured woman. Then, he sprung into action, leaving his cart of goods behind. Growing up, Arlen had that taste of knighthood and nobility, and after seeing decades worth of evil, he would not stand idly by. He'd shout, wave, and whistle — whatever it is necessary to catch someone's attention about the thief — all the while running down the alley to aid the woman. A shemagh gifted from his father would be used to hold the woman's torso, soaking in her blood. There was little he could do at his age, and cardio was not among that list.

Question 2
You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?

Answer: Arlen came across the camp in a foul mood. Merchant's were plagued with many curses, and stagnation was one of them. He had not acquired his cart yet at this point, but the constant shouts and chants of desperate folk trying to sell their wares gave him a migraine. He'd shimmy further into his cloak as he scurries toward one of the pitched tents on site. Normally, Arlen had a purpose for most things he did, but when a family reunion and intervention awaited him, he'd rather have a smoke and a good conversation.

Question 4
In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

Answer: Arlen had approached the soldier, his own hands moist from the blood of the soldier who had previously wielded the sword he held. In times of war, nothing was more important than survival. He had family, friends, and more importantly his own life. You don't carry a sword with the intent to incapacitate. He had this drilled into his head by his Oserian peers. The logic made perfect sense, yet he was now making one of the gravest mistakes by just hesitating. Uncertainty is one of war's most fatal mistakes. And so, with the battle cries raging in the background, Arlen raises his sword and delivers the final blow to the soldier before rushing back to his forces.

You’re almost there! Your application is pending, but I get the impression you are a good enough roleplayer that the required changes should be easy.

There are only a few things to change for a final decision.

Please make the following edits to your application:

1. In the definitions section, I'd like to see a bit more detail on Mary-Sue characters (perhaps a more detailed example), and I'd like you to include the second form of powergaming as well as the one you have described.

2. In the roleplay questions section, I'd like to see longer answers for questions 1 and 2. If you're struggling to come up with more actions your character would take, remember that you can beef them up for me by including more of what's going on in your character's head and more details of exactly how they act. Your third answer did this very well.

Once that is done, make a comment affirming you have made these changes and your application will be reviewed again as soon as possible.

Good luck!

Congratulations! Your application has been approved. As a Korsian an a merchant, your character might be interested in talking to Saverio Caveity, a character played by Verando.

You will now be whitelisted on the server.

Make sure to take some last peeks at relevant information and guides.

You can use ToB’s Discord for communication and questions! You will find me and other whitelisters there too, ready to teach you the ropes.
