Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions
Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).

What do you define as roleplaying?

> Creating a character and carrying out actions as if you were that character.

Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:

> An emote that does not allow the victim to react. For example “I swing my sword, severing the man’s neck” is powergaming because it doesn’t let the victim take an action to avoid getting his head chopped off.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:

> Using knowledge In Character that your character doesn’t know.

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

> A character who has powers or abilities that exceed what would be possible for a normal person without any legitimate Roleplay explanation for having those skills.

What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?

> Out Of Character. It should be used to talk to the person sitting at the computer rather than their character.
Section 3/4 - Character Creation

Story & Biography (please go into detail, we recommend two paragraphs but expect at least one. Please outline character history, personality traits and the things that make your character unique. Have fun with this section!)

> As with many living in the outlying villages between the Oserian planes and the Northern mountains, Jan possesses a fierce sense of loyalty to his village’s people rather than the lords of what he considers foreign lands. One of the childhood friends of Volkhner, the two grew up as fairly rambunctious children. Many-a-whitewashed wall were splattered with cow dung at their behest. Unlike Volkhner, his family was not as well-respected by the conservative village community. His father was an alchemist, a role which was looked upon with suspicion of witchcraft. Nonetheless, numerous times his father brewed concoctions to ward off various plagues and diseases that afflicted the village – thanklessly saving it from many disasters that effected the wider world. While his father wanted to teach him the art of alchemy, Jan saw that the other townsfolk didn’t respect his father for his acts that invariably saved them on numerous occasions. Out of growing frustration with the people around him, he left his town and family with Volkhner when he turned 14 to travel the world.

> Fighting beside Volkhner with his trusty crossbow in hand, Jan has proved himself to be a trusty battle-companion to Volkhner. While he knows the proper way to hold a sword, he’s always preferred to hit enemies from afar while Volkhner closes the gap. The two have made a reliable pair, fighting in campaigns all across the continent. As time passed, however, they went their separate ways – that is, until a courier reached him with a message from his old friend. Now he travels to the Northern lands to seek out Volkhner and re-ignite their days of glory.

(Please note although the character you apply with can commit illegal or immoral acts you cannot do these things on the server without an Intrigue application. This can be applied for once you are whitelisted.) Found here:

(You are also able to apply with a noble but keep in mind you cannot play a noble character on the server unless you join an accepted noble house or apply for one.) Found here:

Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.

Question 3

You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...
> Jan looks down at the dish with a downturned scowl. “If it’s unpleasant, why are you offering it to me?” He shakes his head. “No. I don’t want it.” He spits on the ground and turns, leaving the crone behind him. He has a sharp eye and a good wit – he will stake out in a tree and hunt small game with his crossbow before the night falls.

Question 4

In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

> Jan sighs, aiming his crossbow at the crying soldier’s head and pulling the trigger. As the bolt impacts the soldier’s skull he does not feel a sense of sadness, as he believes they will be reunited with the one they are crying for in the next life. Quickly he runs up and takes the cloth from the soldier’s dead hands before returning to his allies – perhaps the cloth could have been some enemy message that could be useful? He doesn’t bother reading it until he is back behind friendly lines.

Question 5

You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

> Jan enters the village. His gaunt frame, neutral accent, and mostly-northern blood serve to help him blend in with the locals. He searches for the village’s tavern, wrenching the door open against the snowstorm’s gale. He enters, not saying a word he pounds a fistful of Kuras on the table. As the tavern keeper approaches, she gives him the one drink on the menu – hot mead. He prefers beer, really, but any warm drink is welcomed in this wintry gale. As he downs the flagon, he stands and walks closer to the tavern’s fireplace. His scowling visage and closed-off body language discourage those seated from wanting to strike up a conversation. Good – he really isn’t interested in what they would have to say anyway.

Congratulations! Your application has been approved.

You will now be whitelisted on the server.

Your definitions are spot on and show a good understanding of a roleplay environment.

You write a lot about your characters father being an alchemist but there is no information regarding their Northern/Oserian heritage, I will just assume that the character is born of those two parents.

While your character is wearing armour on the skin you provided keep in mind the rules regarding armour on skins may change in the future. It may not be valid in roleplay combat soon.

All in all a very strong and detailed application with a few minor issues but nothing to worry about!

Make sure to take some last peeks at relevant information and guides.

You can use ToB’s Discord for communication and questions! You will find me and other whitelisters there too, ready to teach you the ropes.
