Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions

Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).

What do you define as roleplaying?

- Roleplaying means that people indulge themselves in fictional characters, situations, stories etc.

Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:

- Powergaming means that players try and often achieve the greatest items, values, things etc. But by ignoring some constituting factors. Players achieve these things by using shortcuts and exploits, such as getting very good items from another player despite the fact that the powergamer is not able to acquire these items themselves.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:

- Metagaming means that a player knows some info about a certain object, which he or she acquired out-of-game. For example he or she comes across a dragon, the player could use some exploits on the dragon's weaknesses in order to quickly and easily defeat the said dragon. In the metagaming's context, the player knew about the dragon's weaknesses out-of-gaming and used it, despite the fact that the character never even acquiring the said info in-game.

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

- A character that is so perfect and flawless, that he or she is basically undefeatable. This means that the Mary Sue character will never be beaten by anything, due to the fact that the character is so perfect.

What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?

- It means Out-Of-Character, and should be used when someone wishes to make a comment, suggestion and so on from the person that controls the roleplaying character.

Section 3/4 - Character Creation
Here you will create an example character that could exist in the server’s history and lore.

Story & Biography (please go into detail, we recommend two paragraphs but expect at least one. Please outline character history, personality traits and the things that make your character unique. Have fun with this section!)

(Please note although the character you apply with can commit illegal or immoral acts you cannot do these things on the server without an Intrigue application. This can be applied for once you are whitelisted.) Found here: (Intrigue Application)
(You are also able to apply with a noble but keep in mind you cannot play a noble character on the server unless you join an accepted noble house or apply for one.) Found here: (Noble Houses)
- Finnan Greenbottle was born to a mediocre family, a merchant family. Although the family was able to trade well with others, they weren't particularly rich, but not poor. Because Finnan was born to a family with money, he was able to attend school at his local city. At a very young age his tutor noticed that Finnan had a very large interest in the science of geography, cartography and history. Finnan usually expressed an interest in getting a job at a library, where he could create his own books about the distant lands of Esna, but his father insisted that he would continue the family business. Finnan wasn't much of a rebellious person, so he had to go by his father's request, but deep down he knew what he wanted to do...

Once Finnan became 21 years old, Finnan's father died to cancer. His father left him the business, which was not going very well. So, Finnan promised to revive the business and at the same time travel around the world and document stories from other merchants. And from all this info, he would create a book on Esna and it's history. (Similar to the ancient Greek and ancient Roman historians). Now to the present day, Finnan has been left homeless and jobless. His business went bankrupt at the age of 22. And his mother died when Finnan was 23. Only time will tell what Finnan will do in order to survive and perhaps write the book...

Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.

Question 1

You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

- I rush to the woman, but stumble on the way due to the alcohol intoxication. Once I get to her, I try to talk to her. For example, I try to tell her that everything's going to be all right, but the words are incoherent. As I'm too drunk to speak well. Some time after, I fall asleep. One the morning I wake up to some Oserian guardsmen, who order me to help them remove the body.

Question 2

You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?

- I try to find some fellow merchants, and try to spend some time with them. After some time, I come to the realisation that I won't find any worthy merchants. This is because almost everyone here at the camp are quite peasant-looking. And once I do find some merchants, they are either not speaking the language that I have or they refuse to talk to me if I won't buy anything from them. Thus, I come to the terms that I would have to wait until I get my entry to the city and try to find some other merchants willing to have a talk about, let's say, the places where they've been and try to construct some kind of an image of this world we call Esna.
And aswell as try to sell some of my wares.

Question 3

You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...

- I refuse, if there's one thing that I've learnt from wandering across the lands of Esna, is to never trust people that offer to sell odd-looking food. Because of this, I've always resorted to try and find some better place to buy food, such as a great city with a market. As the old crone is trying to sell the food, I say "no thanks", but after the refusal I can see that she looks very angry. Intimitated by this, I quickly try to get away from the situation and find a quiet place to myself.

Question 4

In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

- I hastily get to the soldier, and insist that he should leave his friend in order to get to safety. But he keeps to cry and stay alongside the fallen soldier, I try to convince him that if he stays, he'll be just like his friend. But he answers with a low-tone, "I would rather go with my friend to the overworld than live here without him".
After sometime, I answer "Well, atleast I tried." I get up and see the enemy almost beside me, and quickly run away to the nearest woods and hide.

Question 5

You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

- I try to tell them that I am a merchant from distant lands, and that I bring with me valuable items from the distant land of the south. And I tell to them too, that I will be willing to sell them for a cheap price tomorrow, if they give me a place to sleep during the night and snowstorm. If they refuse I try to make a small shelter outside the village, but that would be difficult.
If they let me in, I would try to quickly escape the village in the early morning, as then I wouldn't have to sell them anything for a cheap price. If the snowstorm still rages on, I come to the terms that I will have to sell my items for a stupidly cheap price.

Congratulations! Your application has been approved.

You will now be whitelisted on the server. I am currently at work and cannot do so myself.

Keep in mind that your character must be FROM Esna. Esna is the name of the continent. I gave the benefit of the doubt when you said the far lands of Esna, thinking you meant the corners of the continent. If you meant you are from a different continent you will have to change that fact.

Make sure to take some last peeks at relevant information and guides.

You can use ToB’s Discord for communication and questions! You will find me and other whitelisters there too, ready to teach you the ropes.
