Name:
Tjödalv Bärandson
Age:
24
Culture:
Northerner
Story & Biography:
Tjödalv was born a farmer's son. Growing up on a remote farm in the midlands, he recieved both traditional and modern education from his family and friends. His father was a farmer and produced mainly crops for the Luneholm Brewery. In his pre-teen years he mostly helped his parents on the farm and on his dad's delivery trips to Luneholm. In his free time he likes to get around with Jörn, his older half-brother, a sellsword currently working for the local thane. Jörn thought his younger brother the basics of survival and combat, teaching him how to use an axe and shield and how to hunt with a bow. His mother, a city woman, would teach him other ways of survival, such as cooking, modern hygiene and responsibility when he got older.
When growing out of childhood, bad times were coming. The Great Death reached Northern Lands and chaos ruined life among every jarl- and thanedom. Panic, disaster, plundering, raiding, civil conflits and much more came closer to home. Father was stubborn, believing the remote farm would survive so that the family can still live of the land. A real decision came when a distant neighbour got struck by the Great Death. Mother, being the more modern person in the family, arranged a trip with a wandering trader. The Korsian merchant heard rumours of a sanctuary for the non-infected. In exchange of help and protection, Tjödalv's family could travel with the Korsian trade caravan.
The caravan ride was long and dangerous. From avoiding infected people to fending off raiders and looters, from trading with even the most miserable wretches to having many arguments and conflicts within the caravan. Months, even years passed by, searching for that sanctuary, only to be fooled by another rumor. Tjödalv was almost 15, a grown man in Northern tradition. His father told him he would have found a beautiful maiden for him to marry and that he could have taken over the farm by then. His mother was still optimistic, believing there is still hope, at least for young Tjödalv.
The search for the sancturary has taken them back to the Northern lands. Unfortunately, a blizzard and struck them, tearing everything apart. Tjödalv tries to fight back the storm and tries to save his family, but blacks out unfortunately.
Waking up in a cave, Tjödalv finds out only the Korsian trader is with him, looking pale as milk and shivering from the cold. After staring into the endless waves of the blizzard, Tjödalv realizes his family perished. Before anger and sorrow took over his mind, he puts his mind on survival, knowing there is time to find them, bury them and grief later. Wonder by wonder the caravan crashed not to far from the cave. Tjödalv scavenged all goods neccesary to build a fire, make some food and to survive for as long as he and the Korsian trader must. With a few bottles of the golden Luneholm mix, Tjödalv manages to keep the Korsian trader alive. A few weeks have passed before they saw a chance to flee from the worst.
Leaving the nortern lands on both their feet, Tjödalv and the Korsian trader decided to stick together for a while. For many years the Merchant would build up his trading roads again while taking Tjödalv as an apprentice. Tjödalv learned a lot about buying, selling and many other merchant tricks. On one day, Tjödalv deicded to part ways with the old Trader.
On this day, Tjödalv turned 24 years old. He knows how to work the land, how to wield axe and shield, he knows about trading and he knows the northern way of surviving. He wanders the land and lives of work, trade and hunting. His greatest wish is to find the abandoned caravan he once rode with his parents, hoping to give them a suitable burial.
Despite being lonely, Tjödalv thinks about having a drink and celebrate his birthday. After a good night of drinking in the tavern, he finds himself waking up in bed...

Open-ended questions
Question 1
You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...
Answer: Despite being drunk, Tjödalv rushes to the aid of the wounded lass. His Northern education tought him how to survive. With this knowlegde he would try to keep the wound shut tight with a piece of cloth. Meanwhile, he would use his loud voice to ask for help to anyone nearby.
Question 2
You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?
Answer: Because Tjödalv used to be a merchant's apprentice, he would spend his time well. Beside resting and taking some food and beverage, Tjödalv tries to make contact with any tradesman or person willing or knowing someone to make a good deal.
Question 3
You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...
Answer: Despite thinking it through, even asking more about the food, Tjödalv takes the risk and eats it, knowing is northern blood will put him through anything harmful and dangerous, if so.
Question 5
You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?
Answer: Despite his descent, Tjödalv knows the village might not know him. It might be a hostile clan. Nevertheless, he goes inside the village and Tjödalv will greet in Northern Language and asks the residents if they have work and a place to eat and rest for a fellow brother of the north.
