Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions

Please answer these definitions using your own words, the definitions may be researched however not plagiarized (copy-pasted).

What do you define as roleplaying?

- Stepping into the role of a character you create and acting as though you are that character. You act accordingly, just as your character would.

Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:

- Playing the game in a way that is illogical, unrealistic, or impossible in a roleplay situation, which is, in turn, breaking roleplay and is out of character. An example being injured but continuing to move and act as though you weren't, like if you got shot in the leg and just kept walking or if you drank a ton of alcohol and didn't get drunk. Pretty much denying choices or making rp unfair for the other players.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:

- Playing with knowledge you possess but there's no way your in game character could know and using that knowledge to your own advantage.

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

- Having a character who's basically just everything perfect. A character without flaws or depth.

What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?

- Out of Character. Used when discussing things outside of roleplay (for example, to ask a question concerning the roleplay).

- Sindri of the Summitfolk grew up in the harsh environment of the north in a village called Kaitch. He grew up to be an adept warrior and hunter, and by the time he reached adulthood at 15 he had found decent work as a mercenary. As a mercenary Sindri was given the oppurtunity to explore much of Esna, from the ports of Flintwood to the deep swamps of the Drahl. Over the years he built a small reputation for himself. If he were a knight or of nobility, his name would carry serious weight, but being as he was just another mercenary, the only weight his name held was with his brothers in arms and the mercs he worked alongside.
Eight years ago, Sindri returned home after working in southern Oseria to find his village had been razed by another clan, or so he assumed. Unsure of what to do, Sindri continued to do what he knew, which was to draw blood. Of course he thought of revenge first, but he did not know where to start. He did not know of any apparent enemies and the raiders left no traces, just ash. He threw himself into his work then as a butcher of men. After several years, the battles weighed heavily on him and granted him no solace. He quit life as a mercenary and now leads a nomadic lifestyle, looking for something to alleviate his guilt and sorrow, finding peace in nature and sleep in taverns.
Sindri is a stoic warrior that some called 'The Iron Poet'. His prowess in war is a product of strength, courage, instinct, and a second nature level of intelligence when it comes to the flow of battle. He has cold blue eyes and long red hair adorned with braids and beads under his helmet. He is broad of shoulder and tall, but considered lean for a man of the Summit. He is a wanderer with few words and many notches on his blade.

Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions
Please answer at least three of the questions to show how your character would interact with the world. Delete the spares (if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each question you answer.

Question 1

You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

- I forget about the man as soon as he leaves my field of vision. The woman is clearly hurt and after a moment of observation I make my over to help her. She's bleeding a decent amount and so I rip a piece of fabric of and try to makeshift wrap it as best as I can. I have her apply pressure as I pick her up and take her to the nearest doctor. I drop her off there and return to my own journey without giving it further thought.

Question 2

You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?

- First I take this time to evaluate my journey and the future of my journey. I take note of the items I possess that need to be mended or repaired and make a mental checklist of items I need. I spend my time in the market purchasing supplies and necessities as well as selling any wares I am able to for some extra coin on the side. After I have completed all that I find a place to eat and drink. After finding a stall with ale and a warm meal I go and find a quiet corner to eat and rest in until they allow us passage. I do not speak to these people, but I listen, learn what I can about these people and this place, just to get a taste of what's to come.

Question 3

You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...

- I ask the old crone about what makes it so unpleasant to outsiders. If it is simply a matter of taste I pay for it; food is food in the end and I need to maintain my health and strength. If the unpleasantness of the food is dubious in a way that would be more detrimental to my health than necessary, I deny it. I am a skilled hunter and am confident in my ability to provide for myself if necessary. Even if I cannot find a meal now I will find one in my travels tomorrow.

Question 4

In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

- I take a step forward and study the scene. I etch the faces of the corpse and the man into my head; another file of war for the books. I simply turn around and walk away after that without saying a word. I know the man will not follow me, and though we may meet on the battlefield in the future, I find that improbable. The soldier now has a chance to desert his ranks, and he very well may. Many touched by the horror of war do. Either way, it would not be honorable to take a life like that, just cruel.

Question 5

You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

- Seeing as I am of the Summitfolk, I hope to find the villages more accommodating to myself than most. I will ask for shelter until the storm passes. If I not I will ask to buy supplies so I may leave in good health. I doubt they will deny this last request at the very least, but if they do, for whatever reason, I will have no choice but no move on. At worst I will have to find shelter (or dig into the snow to make my own shelter) and spend a night hungry while I wait for the storm to pass.

The End!
