What is your age?
22

-

Have you read the server rules?
Yes

-

Do you agree with the server rules?
Yes

-

How did you hear about Tale of Banners?
I found it on a Minecraft server list.

-

Do you have any previous roleplay experience?
I began roleplaying in 2008 on forums, began chat roleplay in 2012, and Minecraft roleplay in 2014. I’ve been roleplaying on Minecraft since.

-

Additional Information: (If any)
Some of the rules were worded strangely and confused me, but I did get some help when I was on the server.

Section 2/4 - Terms & Definitions

What do you define as roleplaying?
Playing the role of a character in a world grown and occupied by other players and their characters for the creation of a story.

-

Describe the term ‘powergaming’ in your own words:
Using unfair means to get an advantage over other players in-roleplay, such as emoting for characters that don’t belong to you or using your other characters’ roles or abilities for the gain of another one of your characters.
-

Describe the term ‘metagaming’ in your own words:
Using OOC means to acquire something IC. Example:
Your character is supposed to be in an infirmary comatose for a few months but you OOCly know there are players currently plotting against your character, so you follow them and listen to their roleplay. Furthermore, you might ask your friend to use their character to stop them. In the lens of the IC story alone, neither character would logically know any of this was happening, so it would be wrong to try interfering.

-

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?
A Mary-sue is a character that does not follow the standard rules that all other characters must follow. When all characters bend to the shape of the story, a mary-sue bends the world to the shape of herself as she needs it to. This is unfair for other players and can distort basic lore.

-

What does the abbreviation ‘OOC’ mean & when should this be used?
Out-Of-Character. The term OOC is used to refer to the people who play the characters versus the characters themselves (In-Character). If someone asks you to speak to them OOCly about a server rule for example, this is OOC conversation.

Story & Biography

Kiev lived half of his life in Oseria while living the latter half in the Northern Midlands. Likewise, his blood is also mixed between the two cultures. A familial disagreement decided his affiliation to be with his grandfather in Oseria where Kiev would learn to read and receive basic economic and medical knowledge. When his grandfather passed, Kiev would venture out to the North with a few Northerners to support the rest of his family. The transition was harsh, but Kiev was determined to be a valuable asset given the Oserian education he received. Then, he only needed to embrace the Northern warrior-like lifestyle. Though difficult, he enjoyed the challenge and decided to face it head-on. The only obstacle would be the Northern religion. In fact, having grown up to understand both lifestyles and religions, he decided to close himself off from both of them and take up neither. His abstinence from the sacrifices and ceremonies made him out to be an enemy to some, but he held his ground on the matter.

Kiev’s most telling quality is his resilience. He’s able to draw motivation from dry ground and strength from the idea of weakness. He loves to philosophize about humanity and distinguish between the figurative light and dark. Kiev is protective by nature. Though he may sooner be seen as someone with a personality of stone and level-headedness, his temper and ferocity will show on his sleeve the moment someone he cares for is being targeted or manipulated. If he notices any manipulation in fact, he will stomp it out before it becomes worse, taking no nonsense from anyone. Ultimately this makes him reckless, but only under such conditions. He cares deeply for people and will find it increasingly difficult to settle down or be patient if something destructive is happening to them. Unprovoked, he has little to say and prefers to observe.

Section 4/4 - Open-ended questions

Question 1

You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

Kiev doesn’t need to second guess here and wastes no time. He rushes over to the woman to tend to her fresh wound and he takes out a cloth and a bottle of mead. “Doctor.” He’d state briefly, before taking out a sharp blade and cutting any fabric of the dress that may hinder his work. Afterward, he’d pour the alcohol on the cloth and press it to her wound. He’d then call out to any guards should they be nearby.

-

Question 4

In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

Kiev would watch for just a moment, but he’d sooner turn and head back to his comrades, leaving the wounded soldier to mourn for his fellowman. He felt a deep pain in his gut and found himself choked on words. There was something so profound about the unspoken understanding that all men share in the face of great loss. No barrier, no amount of knowledge, no amount of wealth or experience can change what is written in the blood of a man. It was tied to honor, and a grave is for honor. Kiev knew that the moment he and the soldier’s gaze met, they shared this understanding and there was an unfathomable truth. Even with his kingdom’s respect for him at stake, he cannot ignore the most natural phenomenon of the human condition.
-

Question 5

You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few metres ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

Kiev enters the village with his head hung low in the bite of the storm. As he’d approach, his reasons for returning to the storm grew more numerous in his head, but none outweighed the instinct for food and recovery. At this, Kiev formed the resolve that he would rather embrace his recovery here and be thrown out by the village men than ignore his afflictions and die by his own hand to pride.

You’re almost there! Your application is pending.

You were very close to being accepted, and have only two very minor issues that need to be fixed

Make the following edits to your application:

1. Your character's skin has white hair and is a young age. You must have an explanation for the white hair, whether it be bleaching it or being born with albinism. If you are an albino, you should have red eyes as well. All characters must fit into the rules of realism, and TOB biology works very similarly to Earth's.

3. Your character biography needs to mention something from the lore along the lines of plant, animals, buildings, religion, or other things. You mention different locations and mention two religions, but do not name names or anything when it comes to the lore except for the locations.

Once that is done, make a comment affirming you have made these changes and your application will be reviewed again as soon as possible.

Good luck!

He is a character I often bring to roleplays and is normally albino with pink eyes, not red. I wanted him to just be extremely blonde for this roleplay so that there would be less eyesight issues and his appearance wouldn't be entirely recessive. If you still insist on not allowing the white hair unless he's albino, I can change him back.
Also, I don't know how to incorporate plants, animals, or buildings into my character application. They're not super relevant in distinguishing his character.

Here's the correction though.
