Answer - Yes, I have!

Do you agree with our rules?

Answer - Of course.

How did you hear about Tale of Banners?

Answer - Was googling for smaller medieval servers.

Do you have any previous roleplay experience?

Answer - I've been roleplaying for 13+ years! This will be my first minecraft server roleplay.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Answer - Vikings and Minecraft are my special interests, so I'm truly enthralled by their mixture and can't wait to experience it!

Part 2 of 4
Terms & definitions
Answer these definitions using your own words. The definitions can be looked up if necessary, however copy-pasting is not allowed.
What do you define as roleplaying?

Answer - Using a fictional persona and creating an entire world around them, and then sharing that world with others and their personas!

Describe the term ‘powergaming’

Answer - Aiming to have the most powerful character in the game, thus creating a god mod esque situation surrounding the character you're roleplaying. This becomes extremely problematic when your character defeats every villain they come across, squashes all issues, and has no negative situations appear due to how strong or in control they are. This is also considered rude, and isn't fun for the roleplayers involved.

Describe the term ‘metagaming’

Answer - Using outside/irl knowledge of an in-game obstacle to overtake and defeat the obstacle without any regards for the actual roleplay itself. It's especially in effect when your character has 0 knowledge of a subject or obstacle yet can overtake it due to the roleplayer's own knowledge. This is considered impolite, unfair and not fun for the entire team!

What is a "Mary-Sue" character?

Answer - A character everyone is meant to love, adore and has no faults or quirks to be seen as negative.

Part 3 of 4
Character Creation
Here you will create a character to use on our server.
Provide us with an ingame screenshot of your character’s skin.

Story & Biography:

Answer -

Grace Kirkland is a weathered man. He recently lost his sons, which were a numerous bunch, to a battle he speaks little of. He's married four times, yet travels alone, and has cold eyes towards men and women alike. He is a cloudy character, with intentions clouded by his past. He keeps to himself, whittles hunks of firewood into carvings, and writes poems for a girl named Jane. A mistress maybe? He doesn't ever say. If you're lucky enough to have a chance to pick away at his stone exterior, you may find a kind man underneath it all.

In physical appearance, Grace Kirkland naturally has red hair that may remind one of a dull flame. Part of his hair is white, a rare birthmark that runs in his family. His father, who he rarely brings up even to close friends, has the same birthmark on a different part of his hair. Due to wanting to avoid attention to his sons, his father taught Kirkland how to dye the hair red with berries or pig's blood. Thus Kirkland's hair sometimes becomes matted and clumped within it's braids, with blood clots rifled through the strands. Kirkland also has scars upon his body, numerous ones over his chest and back, and three distinct ones upon his face. With two scars stretching over his nose bridge, one over his right eye stretching down to his lower cheek, and several wrapped around his neck. The scars around his neck look as though he was hanged. The story behind his scars are ones he keeps secret, but they are quite blaring and difficult to ignore when gazing at him.

Although Kirkland travels alone, he has had family. A big one in fact. He once lived with his father, mother, his little brother and his little sister. He favored his sister, and still fondly remembers her on his journeys, wishing her sweet blessings whenever he comes upon a church. However their current whereabouts are unknown to him, as he had left his father's home forcefully, stealing the young steed his father kept and naming it 'Imperious' before taking off on his life long journey to find a village he could call home as a lone Northerner. His wives are also nowhere to be seen, as they were killed alongside his sons within a raid. He had village hopped for a while, taking a wife in each small town he settled in for a moon or two, and with those times, he planted his seed in those women and gained sons. Allistor, Dylan, Liam, Seamus, Arthur and Peter. But just as his newest wife gained her pregnancy, a daughter as predicted by a fortune teller, a violent raid overcame the village Kirkland thought he could call home. Everything was burned down. And where was Kirkland during the slaughter? Out drinking. Out being useless and a terrible example of a man just because he had gotten into a petty argument over not wanting to allow a wolf inside his lodge. What a stupid reason to miss the chance at saving your family from devastation and doom. It haunts him nightly.

All Kirkland wants now is a home, a place away from everyone else. The summit born Northerner assumes he might take refuge in a cave at this point, and just live out the rest of his days freezing away, all alone, as he's been for years now. Hopefully, the newest village he stumbles upon may change his fate for him.

Part 4 of 4
Open-ended questions
At least three must be answered. Delete the spares(if applicable). Please include at least one paragraph for each of the answered questions.

Question 1
You stumble outside into the open air after some heavy drinking in an Oserian tavern. Just before you're about to pass an alleyway, a hooded man rushes out of it and runs for it - seemingly, he has both a blade and some jewellery on him. You take a quick peek in the alleyway to see a feminine figure collapsed on the ground, holding her hands over a bleeding wound in her torso. The thief is about to escape and the woman seems in critical condition. You...

Answer: Kirkland scowls, angered that such an act had to occur just now when he was enjoying a good night drinking. But he knows better than to let the thief go freely. He'd draw his own dagger, and shout for authorities. Of course they wouldn't get there in time, not when the thief was right in front of him then and there. So Kirkland would attack, and of course there would be a scuffle. But he was drunk and staggered around heavily, sloppy with his hits and intoxicated to the point where he was seeing double. He'd put up enough of a fight to frighten the thief away however. No jewel is worth your life after all. Sadly Kirkland may have to deal with a couple bruises and maybe a nasty scar on his arm from the thief's own fight. Kirkland would of course contemplate keeping the jewels for himself, beyond exhausted and feeling as if he deserves a prize for his energy spent, but a tiny voice in his heart will convince him to return the jewels to their rightful owner. At this point he wouldn't bother accepting any rewards, he just wants to get home, so he grunts, and he walks away, hurrying to get out of the cold just as the guards would arrive to assist the women to a clinic.

Question 2
You are on your way to the Korsian city of Telth to sell some wares. Upon reaching the front gates you are stopped by the guard. They deny you entry for the time being as the traffic into the city is too high. You are effectively forced to wait in the refugee camp located between the two gates for the time being. The camp is
filled with shopping stalls and refugees sleeping on the floor. How do you spend your time in the camp?

Answer: Kirkland is a man, and a man with needs. After a while sitting around waiting, he'd resort to some darker desires and see if anyone is selling any special "herbs" or spirits. If he doesn't succeed there, his next best bet is a brothel of some sort. And once again if he can't find that, he'd be inclined to find some wood, return to his horse Imperious, and settle in for the night, carving away at his chunk of wood and gazing tiredly up at the sky. The stars would shine that night, and he'd fall asleep slowly whilst the wood fell out of his hand. He'd have carved an old forgotten god, one his parents had raised him upon.

Question 3
You've gotten lost and wandered awhile into Drahl lands, eventually finding yourself in Crookmire Swamp, where you decide to settle for the night. Finding a meal to buy for the evening takes some effort, but you do come across an old crone in ragged clothing, who offers to sell you some sea-looking food. She doesn't ask much, but warns you that eating it is 'unpleasant' to outsiders. You...

Answer: Kirkland is a picky eater. After examining what she offers, he'd politely decline, and take to starving for the night. It's not anything new for him. He doesn't need a warm meal every night, as he had been raised on scraps. Ah yes, his childhood he had been quite the ill cared for runt, even as the eldest son. And not even due to poverty, but due to his parents truly not caring for his well-being. In rougher terms, they hurt him daily, him and his sisters, and starved them often. So as he settles in on an empty stomach once again during his travels, he's neither satisfied, nor upset.

Question 4
In the midst of battle, you find yourself approaching a wounded enemy soldier. The soldier is on the floor, clearly in terror as they cradle one of the dead. Enemy forces begin to advance in the distance and you know you have to act fast. The soldier then grasps at a cloth and removes it from the dead soldiers pocket. They continue to cry, and starts calling the dead soldier's name in despair. Then the soldier glances up to see you - with your weapon up - but does not care of your approach, continuing to cradle the dead soldier. You…

Answer: When encountering the enemy in a time of war, Kirkland doesn't hesitate. He swings his axe, and swings it again, with red soon painting his cheeks. He staggers up, taking a deep breath and staring at the massacre. In his heart he felt sorrow for the soldiers. So he did justice by them, quickly grabbing the cloth the soldier had pulled out of the other's pocket, and tying it around the handle of the axe that killed him. When Kirkland gets to a safe place, he builds a simple soldier's grave, and buries the cloth. He blesses it softly, and wishes those soldier's spirits well. He speaks nothing of these acts.

Question 5
You have wandered across a seemingly endless tundra for what have felt like days. A raging snowstorm makes you unable to see more than a few meters ahead. Being almost out of resources, you are delighted to find out that you have stumbled your way to a village. Upon closer inspection you find out it's a Northern village, and the residents are not very friendly towards strangers. What do you do in this dire situation?

Answer: As a Northerner himself, Kirkland would hope the villagers accept him. Upon finding out they do not, he carefully proceeds to do the necessary business, but doesn't stay for long. Within a day he is back upon his steed, heading out into the snow storm. Of course a warm bed, a warm meal and a friendly face to speak to would have been nice, but Kirkland knew when he was unwanted and was a wiser man than to overstay his welcome. That's how fools were killed. Kirkland was no fool.

You’re almost there! Your application is pending.

There are only a few things to change for a final decision.

Make the following edits to your application:

1. Being a roleplayer of 13 years, I'd expect you to cover powergaming in a more indepth sense than that. Try researching and adding to it.

2. Similarly, you should offer the context of metagaming in a roleplay setting than a so direly minecraft focused one. Despite setting up the server on minecraft, ender dragons really don't have anything to do with it - perhaps try describing what metagaming is in regards to general roleplay.

3. When further researched powergaming, try to reconsider your open-endeds, namely the first one and account for heavy drinking being heavy drinking.

Once that is done, make a comment affirming you have made these changes and your application will be reviewed again as soon as possible.

Good luck!
